Terms

What you get when you buy an export, what happens to your conversation, and what this software does not claim to do.

Who you are contracting with

ChatExhibits is operated by Martin Ferret EI, Entrepreneur individuel, under the French micro-entreprise regime, 9 rue des Érables, 45250 Briare, France, registered under SIREN 999 111 438, VAT number FR85999111438. Telephone: +33 6 86 21 70 01. Reaching us: [email protected]. Using the site means accepting these terms.

What the software does

It reads a WhatsApp chat export inside your browser and produces a PDF from it: the conversation laid out, optionally with Bates numbering, a certificate carrying the SHA-256 digest of your source archive, an index and transcribed voice notes.

Parsing is deterministic. The same export, the same settings and the same answers produce the same document, page for page and number for number, which is what makes a citation in a filing survive the document being regenerated.

What it does not promise

It does not make anything admissible. Bates numbering is a professional convention that makes a document citable, not a legal requirement and not a stamp of acceptance. Whether a court admits an exhibit is the court’s decision, and nothing produced here binds it.

A matching SHA-256 digest establishes that a file has not changed since the document was made. It says nothing about what the file contained before: if messages were deleted in WhatsApp and the chat was exported afterwards, the digest faithfully certifies a shortened export. That is why the certificate carries a declaration for a person to sign.

Machine transcription of voice notes is a draft you are required to read and correct before a document is produced. The document records which transcripts were reviewed and how many were changed. Nothing here is a certified translation or a certified transcript.

Nothing on this site is legal advice, and using it does not create any professional relationship.

Your conversation

It is never uploaded. There is no server to send it to: the reading, the hashing and the rendering all happen on your machine, so we never hold it, cannot produce it if asked, and have nothing to delete.

The one exception is optional and is never on by default. If you tick the box offering higher-accuracy voice-note transcription, the audio of those notes, and only the audio, is sent to a third-party transcription service and deleted immediately afterwards. The text of your messages is never sent anywhere under any circumstances.

You are responsible for having the right to use the conversation you upload. It will usually contain other people’s personal data, and whether you may produce it in a proceeding is a question for you and your lawyer.

What a purchase includes

French VAT is charged on sales to customers in France. Sales to customers outside France are not subject to French VAT. Prices are shown in US dollars, and any tax due is added at checkout.

Personal Archive ($19) and Legal Exhibit ($79) are paid per export. Attorney is a subscription and can be cancelled at any time, effective at the end of the period already paid for.

A paid export can be regenerated free for 30 days, with different settings or a different layout, from any machine. Because nothing about your conversation is stored, regenerating means opening the same archive again; the resulting document is identical.

Sales are final

There are no refunds, and the reason is that there is nothing to buy blind. The preview is free, unlimited and needs no account: it lays out the first 200 messages of your own conversation, in the layout you choose, exactly as the paid document will look. If your export cannot be read, the preview fails and says why, before any money changes hands. The preview is the trial, and it is offered in place of a refund policy rather than alongside one.

If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you normally have fourteen days to withdraw from a distance purchase. Digital content supplied immediately is an exception: by completing a purchase you ask for the document to be made available at once and acknowledge that you lose that right of withdrawal once it is.

None of this applies to a fault on our side. If a defect in the software prevents a document being produced from an export the preview accepted, write to [email protected] and we will fix it or refund you. Your statutory rights are not affected by anything on this page.

Acceptable use

Do not use ChatExhibits to produce a document you intend to pass off as something it is not, to process a conversation you have no right to, or to attempt to make the software assert something untrue about a file.

Liability

The software is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim arising from your use of it is limited to what you paid us for the export the claim concerns. We do not exclude liability for death, personal injury or fraud, because no one may.

If something goes wrong

Write to us first: [email protected]. Most things are settled that way.

If they are not, nothing here takes away the routes the law gives you. A consumer keeps every remedy available in their own country of residence, and may bring a claim before the courts that have jurisdiction there.

Changes and governing law

These terms may change; the date at the top says when they last did, and a change never applies retrospectively to a purchase already made. They are governed by the law of France, and a consumer keeps the protection of the mandatory rules of their own country of residence.
